My interpreting experience, to date, has been in the following areas:
  • Conferences – High profile national to small-scale local events.
  • Medical/Health - GP appointments, Hospital consultations including births, operations, psychiatric appointments and so on. Also Health Awareness and Complimentary Therapy.
  • Education – School meetings, College and University courses/lectures and graduation ceremonies.
  • Employment - Job interviews, work-related training, staff meetings, disciplinary hearings and appraisals.
  • Council Services – Appointments at all Council departments.
  • Deafblind Scotland training events.
  • Legal – Appointments with Solicitors, Police interviews, and Court interpreting.
  • Social Services – Social work appointments, counselling, probation supervisions and reviews.
  • Political – Events at the Scottish Parliament.
  • Theatre and drama performances across the board.
  • Religious ceremonies – Christenings, weddings, funerals and large-scale celebratory events for various denominations.
  • Information - Translation of visual (e.g. DVD, video) and printed materials into BSL.

I hold the Certificate in Interpreting Studies and Skills (BSL/English) from Heriot-Watt University and have attended specialised interpreting courses on topics such as:

  • Mental Health
  • Minimal Language Skills
  • Theatre
  • Voice-over
