WHAT IS A SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER? A British Sign Language Interpreter is a professional person who interprets from English to BSL and BSL to English. This is usually done simultaneously and enables communication to take place between a Deaf sign language user and a hearing person. WHY USE A REGISTERED SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER? Sign Language Interpreters who are Registered Members of professional bodies such as the Scottish Association of Sign Language Interpreters (SASLI) and Association of Sign Language Interpreters (ASLI) are bound by a strict Code of Conduct and Practice. These Codes include sections on Professionalism, Confidentiality, Impartiality and Accountability . All SASLI members must undergo an Enhanced Disclosure Scotland check in order to practice and are covered by Professional Indemnity Insurance. |
